"The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas." - Linus Pauling
Just like the start of all our other modules, final major project begins with the pitch!
Chapter One - Life's a Pitch
The pitch has never been so important up until now. Now is the time we need our ideas to be picked. Sure theres the option of working on someone else's idea but wheres the fun in that. Along with pitching synopisis and ideas for films, I'm also pitching myself as writer and editor on any productions of mine that get chosen or any productions that need one on their crew. Writing and editing is where I see myself specialising and where I excel in the filmmaking process, so to have a chance to work as them for my final major project would be great.
Drew Brockbank is pitching himself as a director along with an idea of his own called "The Cell". I have collaborated with Drew before and work extremely well with his style and method of filmmaking so we decided that if his idea got picked, that I would write the script for "The Cell" and he would direct it.
I'm fully invested in writing the script for Drew's film but am also pitching a couple of film ideas myself to have a greater chance of having one of my scripts go into production.
Helter Skelter
Helter Skelter is the first of my ideas that I will be pitching and is based on true events but updated and modernised for a film set in todays times. It is inspired by the events of Beach Boys member Dennis Wilson and his association and connection to Charles Manson.
Characters:
Matt Hunter-
Guitarist in highly successful band. Pulled into story upon meeting Charley Starr and becomes greatly interested in his following.
Charley Starr-
Commune leading criminal who infiltrates Matt's life and commits murders around the neighbourhood. Highly manipulative and dangerous.
Chris, Daniel and Jay-
All members of Matt's band and supporting characters for the film.
Michael Holmes -
Studio Executive working on the bands newest album. Suspicious of Charley and his involvement.
10+ Girls in Charley's Commune-
Charley's followers and lovers who commit many of his crimes on his behalf.
The Bank Heist or (How We Illegally Obtained Our Fortune)
The Bank Heist is the second of my ideas that I will be pitching but I am cautious about pitching it because it is such a big story and would be quite the challenge to get into production. I've also been a fan of the heist genre and this story is inspired by films such as The Town (2010) and Snatch (2000) but applying a new style to the reveal and action in the film. I want to include a certain style that has been proven successful in films such as Go (1999), Run Lola Run (1998) and Vantage Point (2008) where the film is told from different characters point of view throughout the film.
Characters:
The Client -
A young man who is visiting the bank to close his account, when out of the blue a robbery takes place changing his whole day... and whole life.
The Masked Man -
A notorious bank robber who is in charge of the heist and leads a small team stealing all of the money.
The Detective -
A middle aged cop who is one of the first to the scene and tries to negotiate and co-operate with the robbers to stop the heist.
Additional Cast -
2-3 Bank Robbers, Bank Extras and Cops.
